Today I'm going to show you a Facebook setting to give you a little extra peace of mind from the old cyber nasties. This setting allows Facebook to send you a text message to your mobile when someone (including you) is trying to log in from somewhere else (IP address). This way no one can log in unless they have your mobile phone, which makes this process extremely secure. :-)
There’s one drawback however. If you forget or lose your phone you won’t be able to log in from somewhere new. Other previously verified locations still work so you can remove or update this setting in such an event.
To enable this setting, log into your Facebook account and click on the little gear icon in the top right corner and go to Account Settings, then click Security on the left.
Here are two settings you will need:
1. Login Notifications – click Enable Text messages
This will notify you in the event your account is accessed from an IP address that you have never used before.
2. Login Approval – click Enable Login Approval
This feature will send you a security code by text message that you will need to enter to access your account
That’s it! You have now added some extra security to your Facebook account.
